The Gerber Ayako is a cool EDC pocket knife, for a great price. You can clearly tell that the maker was inspired by the Japanese knife world. The tanto-shaped blade, sleek lines and subtle texture on the handle: very Japanese. You can open the Ayako with the thumb hole, or the front flipper. Might take some getting used to at first, but when you are used to it, it will be a piece of cake. Here you will also find that subtle nod to the Japanese knife world: the front flipper might remind you of the Chikiri (lever) which you use to open a Higonokami pocket knife. When opened a strong frame lock will block the blade. The blade is made from 7Cr17MoV-steel. A stainless type of steel you can easily sharpen yourself. Gerber used aluminium for the handle. With the tip-down pocket clip you can safely carry it in your pocket.
